My Favourite Books (Planner Girls Collective)

My Favourite Books as part of the Planner Girls Collective - Kerrymay._.Makes
This post contains affiliate links, but they are all for books that I own or read.
I would never link to anything that I don't love and recommend personally.
I'm a bit of a book fiend once I get into the zone.  I love a good read, but just don't seem to find the time between work, arty stuff and my blog.  I do most of my reading in the summer months, sitting outside in the sunshine or by the pool on holiday, there really is nothing better.  So I'm excited to be doing this blog post as part of the Planner Girls Collective.

NUMBER ONE:
1984 by George Orwell has to be my favourite book of all time.  It is so current and topical today even though it was written in 1948.  I love a good distopian novel and this is no exception.  Orwell predicted many things accurately and that's what gives it even more appeal.  I love the love story links alongside it too.  I recently went to see Headlong Theatre perform a version of 1984 with my students and it was one of the best pieces of live theatre I have seen (and I have seen a lot).  If it tours again - which it will, make sure you go and see it, totally edge of the seat stuff.
NUMBER TWO:
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a book I have always loved and always will.  It holds a special place in my heart and again has a drama link as I have directed a short version for the Christmas Concert. I love everything Victorian and as a child I used to pretend I was a poor Victorian child - yep I'm that weird.  I know this book almost word for word, so it was debatable on whether it should be number one. I also loved the Dickensian series that was on tv last year, such a shame it never re-ran. I must have seen every film version and Scrooge the Musical remains in my top five films of all time.
OTHER BOOKS OF NOTE:
There are far too many other books I love to list them all so I will just give a few shout outs.
Macbeth - awesome, enough said!
Life After Life by Kate Atkinson - a beautiful read, had me crying on my sun lounger more than once.
The Godfather Trilogy - pure grit.  I love a gangster book or film.
Shutter Island - amazing novel, amazing film.
A Secret History by Donna Tartt - really well written and quite edge of the seat stuff at times.
The Hannibal Books by Thomas Harris - great reads.

As a child I loved to read Sweet Valley Twins and Sweet Valley High, whilst at University I was obsessed with the horror and thriller genre, The Rats trilogy by James Herbet and Domain by Dean Koontz were my favourites.

I love A Christmas Carol. I used to be a teacher and we would always do the play in my class.
