Hi everyone, it's been a while since I shared a flip through of my art journals, so I thought I would do a quick video of a peek into 3 of my art journals to show you the art work I have created recently and when I started. Have a look at the video below for a peek inside.
One of my favourite art pages that started out as a swatch test page of the Jane Davenport Brights and the Prima Pastel watercolours.
A short post today to share the video, but I hope that you enjoyed watching. Please leave a comment to let me what you thought either here or on You Tube and don't forget to subscribe to my channel for art video updates, you can view the first half of the book here. Art Journal Flip Through #1

Happy National Scrapbook Week
This month as part of the Mrs Brimbles Creative Team I have been playing with watercolours and drawing gum again, but in a completely different way to last time. In Anna's latest Patreon tutorials, she has been showing us how to create something called 'Journal Spots', journaling cards that use drawing gum to create a resist area that we can then use to write or journal on. I love them! It's also National Scrapbook Day on Saturday, so happy scrapping!
I have created 4 different cards, each with a different purpose in mind. The one above is for my Happiness and Bloom Journals (both of which are junk journals). I have used the cards as prompts for further journaling. The one below is one of my long term goals: To move to Spain, it is something that I WILL be doing, even if takes until retirement to get there.
The Growth and Happy journaling cards are my Words of the Year, so something I have been holding dear and trying to live up to. Happy seems to be working for me at the minute. I have been much happier in my work and this has had a knock on effect in all areas of my life. I have used the card to document my weekend at Cambs Planner Con last week and you can see this in my journal below. It was such a lovely event and great to finally get to meet some of the lovely people I have spoken to online and to see friends that I have already met through the planner and journaling community. The page also uses stickers from Anna from both the ones that were sent with our ticket and ones from the latest Brimbles Box (Planner Nerds Bright's).
I've loved creating and using the Journal Spots and it is something I will be creating and making again. Do check out Anna's Patreon Page, she has updated it to include lots of new goodies and rewards including a tier where you can get the Brimbles Box included.
Take Care and I will see you soon,
Modelling paste and stencils for texture in your art journal pages
You will see in the video how I have used modelling paste with stencils. I used a heavy texture paste and built it up over masking tape and tissue, finishing off with acrylic paint.
You can get some great and very cheap art stencil masks over at Ali Express and they are all less than £2.50.
Tissue paper and embellishments for texture in your art work
Other methods for adding texture to art journals
Finally in the video I have used salt with watercolour, this really adds a grainy texture to your pages. You can also see more tips here including adding talc to thicken your acrylic paint.
Art Techniques for Art Journaling
It's the Easter holidays - yay, so I have been busy creating and 'arting'. I have two completely different things to show you today, a junk journal I am working on and a quick 5 minute art journal / creative journal page, that shows you that creating art doesn't need to be a big task.
Junk Journal / Goal Journal:
5 Minute Creative Journal Art Page
My second creative video is a 5 Minute Art Page (also in my junk journal) and Creative Journal Page Process of my 5 favourite things currently. The page is part of a mini challenge by Anna Brim over on her Facebook group - Mrs Brimbles Happy Place as part of her group and You Tubes 5th birthday celebrations. Check out Mrs Brimbles Channel here.
I'm really looking forward to completing the journal and using the prompts from the group to complete it. Main goals are to focus on moving to Spain, not something I plan on doing just yet, but it certainly is my ultimate goal.
Here's some more images from inside the journal.
I'd love to hear what you have all been up to and creating, do you have any ultimate goals? Leave a comment below. I also encourage you to join in with the Monthly challenge over at Dream Create Journal.
Take Care and if you are still off work for the holidays, Happy Holidays

Take Care and have a great week. I'm so busy this week with exams at the schol I teach, so I will be back in the Easter holidays,
An unboxing of a beautiful junk journal kit to make your own stunning vintage junk journals and altered books using a kit by Queen Mabel & Doris on Facebook and on Etsy. This is such a pretty kit and could be used in so many ways. Have a watch to see it in all of it's loveliness.
Don't forget to subscribe to my You Tube too for all the latest videos.
The kit contains so many beautiful goodies including:
Material, waxed thread, papers, stained papers, die cuts and ephemera (which fell out of the package, I found them later on), cut envelopes, ribbons, doily's, paper bags, a beautiful clip, journaling cards, patterned serviettes for decoupage and so much more.
Yay, February, finally the January blues are gone and we can all look forward to the rest of the year. This month I have been watching a lot of Anna Brim's (Mrs Brimbles) patreon videos on creating watercolour animal paintings using watercolour. You can join in here on Anna's patreon page.
Anna painted a stunning grey scale giraffe, so hesitantly I decided to give it a go. I honestly never thought I would be able to paint an animal as I'm normally a Mixed Media sort of girl, but finally I have mastered controlling the watercolour and brush to get the effect and shading I wanted using one of my Pentel Aquash water brush pens.
I didn't pencil draw the giraffe first, I just did a loose outline in a light grey wash and then started filling in the facial features first before moving on to the body patterns. Finally I added a touch a black pen to define the outline of the pattern and it was one... first attempt! I know I was gobsmacked too!
I didn't really know what to do with the finished giraffe, so eventually decided to cut it out and use it in my bullet journal. It's perfect for my Hello February page and now that I was on a roll with being able to control the watercolour I even attempted a touch of hand lettering using the watercolour brush. I have tried brush lettering before with brush pens and I really can't do it. I found it much easier using a water brush dipped in to paint. Not a bad attempt for my first try.
To finish the page I added a few leaves using a green posca pen and a a fitting quote 'Rise Above' and a bullet journal list of aims for the month. I am so happy with the overall page. I can't wait to see what else I can paint. There's no stopping me now!
