Junk Journal Challenge

How I made my junk journal using an altered book and sewn in signatures for a challenge in my Facebook Group Kerrymay Makes a Mess #junkjournal #alteredbook
Please spread the love & share me to Pinterest
My Junk Journal Challenge has been happening again over in my Facebook Art Journaling group. We have just completed our second challenge which ran through the month of August. Lots of lovely people have taken part, both in the group and on Instagram (if you search for the hashtag #kmmamjunkjournal on Instagram you can see some of the works in process and finished journals).

A lot of people are still completing theirs, so I will do another post when there are more finished journals from the participants.
The images from my journal are below as well as a video flip through of the completed journal I created this year, which includes sewn in signatures (a first for me).

How I made my Junk Journal

To make the book, I gutted an hardback Tolstoy book then reinforced the spine using cardboard. I then made a guide and used an awl tool to make holes in the spine. I then made 2 journal inserts which I sewn in to the spine as signatures. This is the first time I have done this, so I followed this video by  Gayle Agostinelli on You Tube.

I used a variety of different papers and vintage ephemera from scrapbook paper, old books, vintage sheet music, vellum, journal cards and printables. I also used envelopes and paper bags to create pockets and pouches. For the cover, I added some lace and material which I glued on to the book itself. I love the finished look and it is so sturdy.

I have been running the challenge every year as it is always popular. I have several challenges going on and mini challenges in the group that you can take part in, or you can simply just be a part of the community. If you enjoyed the post, please do pin the image at the top of the page to Pinterest and leave me a comment here on the blog. I will see you in the group soon.

Thank you to all who took part or who are still finishing their journals, I can't wait to see them,
Kerry xx

I always look at people's junk journals and think I'd love one but I know it just wouldn't turn out as great as other people's. This looks awesome!
