Guest post for Mrs Brimbles Creative Arty Team.
Well it’s finally Autumn, my favourite season, but that’s no reason not to still create pages with hints of Summer right? The collage sheets from Mrs Brimbles Patreon are stunning and allowed me to do just that. I have created a page by cutting up her artwork collage sheets that she created originally for canvas work. I must say I love the final result of the art journal page.
Creating the page:
The page I have created is for a Travelling Art Journal Circle over on my Facebook group Kerrymay._.Makes a Mess. I was sent a stunning book from the person before me in the circle (Sarah Gamble), I was really scared of ruining the page and paper. I applied a thin layer of red hued acrylic paint which I added to the page using a brayer roller. I went over this with white acrylic paint to dull down the colour and allow the background of the page to peep through. I then used a stencil which came free with a magazine and applied heavy texture paste to create small flowers.
Next I used some homemade spray inks over the flowers and to the right of the page to give it texture and shine. I think the gold spray in particular looks lovely and really makes the page pop. A little gem was used in the centre of the two mini flowers for added sparkle.
Next I used a stamp pad and stencil/mask to add more texture to the page. Now came the fun part: adding the collage sheets. I printed off the canvas artwork sheets then put them all together and held together with a paperclip. I then drew a flower petal shape on the top layer and cut this out so that I had 10 cut out pieces all identical. I then arranged and glued them in a flower formation to the left side of the page. I added detail using a standard black and purple felt tip and then added some gold glitter glue blobs to add a bit of bling.
Finally a circle vinyl sticker for the centre of the flower was added and I used individual letter stamps with black ink to add my caption to the page: ‘You Are Blooming Amazing’. I love the way the collage sheets really bring out the colour in the page, they look so textured.
The final page looks lovely in the book I was given to create the page. I hope the recipient likes it.
In addition to the lovely artwork collage sheets, Anna has provided a multitude of other stunning collage sheets using her own artwork. There are the beautiful Autumnal animal paintings that you may have seen on The Happy Place… I am saving these for my next post though as I plan to do a spot of Autumn creative journaling and dashboard making.

Firstly I used patterned tissue paper which I sealed with matte medium. I then added watercolour to the page using paints from Poundworld! They are a complete bargain - you can see Geraldine Jayne testing them out here.
I followed a set of process videos from Anna's Patreon, starting with the July content on creating sketchy girls and then moved on to facial expressions, painting a girl and finally creating a whole art journal page. The instructions are very simple and so clear to follow. I followed on from this using some her amazing collage sheets for the design elements, including the houses and flowers. Finally I added detailing in black felt tip and a white posca paint pen. I love the effect of the finished pages.
For the journal itself I used a cheap sketchbook from Hobbycraft and added some scrapbook papers and washi tape to the cover and then decorated the first two pages with the list of participants in our circle and a comment on the inspiration for the page. I can't wait to see everyone's pages they have created. For a look at everyone's work don't forget to head over the the group - Kerrymay._.Makes a Mess.
NEW Online Course Creative Travel & Adventure Journalling - How to get started!
In addition to the Patreon content, Anna has an amazing new course coming out too on Adventure Journaling. Here is Anna's advert on what the course offers.
"Through comments on my YouTube videos and social media interactions, I often hear people say that they would love to keep a travel or adventure journal as they have been inspired by ones they have seen but don’t even know where to start."
Join Anna on a beginners guide to adventure journalling. Whether you have just come back from a wet week camping and want to know what to do with all those photos you took or your planning a massive back packing trip for next year, I hope that the ideas and information I give you inspire you to create your amazing journal. Of course adventures don't have to be huge, an adventure to me is sometimes just going for a walk in my nearest wood!
This course is suitable for beginners with no experience of creating a journal and to avid journallers who would like to incorporate more adventure into their journals. This course is a self paced online course so you can go entirely at your own speed from the comfort of your own home or coffee shop if you prefer!

A short post to say that in addition to the Junk Journal challenge I have a Travelling Journal sign up going on over on my Facebook Group. You can read the full instructions over there and sign up to a UK or US circle. Unfortunately for this challenge you must be a member of the Facebook Group.
SIGN UP INSTRUCTIONS: Each person sends off a notebook with one completed page and a signed message page on the back of it or next to it. There will be a posting date each month the first being August 20th to send to the next person on the list (numbered) and eventually it will get back to the first. Each month you will have a new book and will complete a new page then post again on the 20th of each month. SIGN UP BY 23RD JULY.
How It Works: Each person sends off a journal page in a book they have bought, we would each send off a journal on the 20th of each month. I will put together a list of who sends to who. It carries on until the journal has been round the circle and in the end we each get the original journal sent back to us with an entry from each person. Each circle will have 6 people in the circle, so will run till January 20th. We can have as many circles as sign up.
Please state in the group if you are not from the UK so we can see if there is enough interest for a US or Canada or Australian circle.
Hope to see you there,
Hi all, just a quick round up of what I have been up to over the end of term school holidays...aww, it's so lovely to have a break from work and so nice to be able to catch up on my planners, creative journaling, smash books, art and blog. I really have been using the break for a bit of me time... the marking can wait. I can't believe it is Easter already, where is time going? Crazy!
ART JOURNALING GROUP CHALLENGES:
If you missed the post about the new Art Journaling Group you can see it here or you can join the group directly here - https://www.facebook.com/groups/KerrymayMakesAMess
There is quite a bit going on in the group. We took part in the first group challenge last week on Tea Bag Art. You can see my results of that above and pop in to the group to see the creations the lovely members made... they are awesome! The hardest part of this challenge for me was that I don't like tea. No, not just don't like it, I hate it, hate the smell and hate touching wet tea bags. It certainly was a challenge.
We are now on to challenge 2 which takes inspiration from acrylic fluid painting and drawing circles. If you're up for the challenge then pop on over and share your creativity.
The group also has places you can share your work and is a place you can go to relax, chat or get inspiration or ask for help.
Above is a couple of new pages in my art journal for the 2nd group challenge, it's a bit of a 'creative mess' so hopefully I will have a go at a better one this weekend (after I have done at least 'some' of my marking before I go back to work (hahaha). The second image is a page from my smash book, which I love. I received some gorgeous washi tape and ephemera from the UKPA group on Facebook as part of their Wishes post, so have put it to good use. I am on a No Spend on planner, art or stationery of any kind from now until 22nd May (I know, I know, violin please and a huge dose of willpower thrown my way). See more of my Smash Book pages here.

Hi all, so excited, with the new news. I have a set up an Art Journaling Group on Facebook - Kerrymay._.Makes a Mess please do pop over and join in the creative fun.
A lot of people on Facebook in the planning community were looking for an art journaling group to share their creations, tips, posts etc so I have created one. Most of the others online were for experts and we wanted a little place where we could all learn and get inspiration from each other, without the limits of lots of rules. There will be freebies, have threads to share weekly creations and threads to share blogs and journaling videos. There will also be tutorials and challenges each month or week and lots of other bits n bobs. Hope to see you there.
JOIN THE GROUP HERE
A creative place for Art Journaling, Creative Journaling. A relaxing place to share your creations and to get involved. Monthly challenges, freebie resources and a place to share your creative pages, videos, blogs and tutorials. Feel free to invite others who you think may want to join in.
Please only post your own work or links to others.
No advertising shops please, unless we are looking for specific resources.
